I can’t promise that working out with Cory will cure everything that ails you…(but it worked for me).
I started working out with Cory two months after turning 59. I had always considered myself to be generally “in shape” because I ran 6 miles two or three days a week and had my weight within an acceptable range.
I was troubled, however, by some of what I thought were the unalterable results of aging: I couldn’t easily remove a gallon of milk from the top shelf in the refrigerator; I found myself making a strange “old person grunt” every time I picked something up off the floor or even arose from doing something like tying a shoe; my left shoulder had become frozen and painful and I could reach behind my back to button a shirt or hook a bra strap only with difficulty. I decided to work out with Cory to increase my strength.
In the beginning, I was horrified to discover how many basic exercises were difficult or impossible for me. I could barely raise a 5-pound weight over my head. My arms shook when bench pressing with 10s. I could not raise myself from a bench from a seated position with one leg. Multiple push-ups? Forget about it.
Cory worked with me at my level and provided the exact right amount of challenge and encouragement. He motivated me to try things I did not think I could do and he observed me carefully and made any needed adjustments so that I increased my strength without ever injuring myself. It took some work, but after two or three months, I noticed real improvement. Six months later, I have to say that I feel better than I have in years. Not only has my strength improved, my frozen shoulder has gained strength and mobility and is free from pain. I don’t even think about it when I have to reach behind me with my left arm. NO MORE GRUNTING when I bend over to pick things up or rise from the floor. That movement has become fluid again.
“Unalterable results of aging?” I don’t think so! Best of all, my mood has improved. I’ve never been depressed, but my enjoyment of life had become kind of “muted.” I have noticed a marked increase in my mental outlook as I have continued to work out and get in better shape.
So, if you ask me, I would say, do yourself a huge favor and begin working out with Cory—sooner rather than later. I think that you will be amazed at what you can accomplish.
