2019 Goals - Spartan Race: by Aurora Arlt
Welcome to our weekly guest blog! Each Sunday I will be featuring an article written by one of my closely respected colleagues. There is so much to learn, do and say when it comes to fitness & life I couldn’t possibly come close to covering it all. Now you’ll be able to learn a wide variety of information; and meet knew trainers to learn from as well. Enjoy!
Having a date on the calendar has been one of the key factors to my growth. Knowing that I have something specific to work towards with a set deadline provides me with the focus, motivation, and determination I need to get out of bed everyday with purpose.
Knowing this, I am always looking for challenges to add to my calendar. For 2019, I have set a huge goal for myself. Up to this point with Spartan racing, I have only ever completed 1 full Spartan Trifecta (1 Sprint, 1 Super, 1 Beast) a year with a couple of random races added to that.
This year, I want to complete 4 Trifectas. 12 races. 4 Sprints. 4 Supers. 4 Beasts. On top of this goal, I want to compete in these races. I want to challenge myself to push harder than I ever have before and see where I stack up.
I think it's important to constantly find ways to level up. Each new challenge or date on the calendar should be more difficult than the last. Or maybe it’s the same difficulty level but in a completely new way. The surest way to avoid plateaus of any kind, mentally or physically, is to avoid complacency, avoid stagnation. Demand more of yourself. Find ways to rise to the occasion.
For me, when a goal feels scary and that thought of “You really think you can do this?” runs through my mind - that's when I know I'm on the right track. It should be challenging. It should feel scary. As they say - if your goals don't scare you, they probably aren't big enough.
Another goal or outcome with doing this amount of races is the impact it will have on my business. All of the races and different venues will allow me accumulate experience and insights. I want to document my journey and all of the things I learn along the way including training, race day fuel and gear, nutrition, and overall best practices.
All of this will allow me to better serve my clients and athletes. At the end of the day, my ultimate goal is to be the best resource for my athletes to succeed. I know that by taking risks and challenging myself in such a way, I am setting myself up to be just that. A resource that not only shows them what is possible and what can be done, but one that also gives them the tools to achieve great things on their own.
Until next time,
Aurora
